10 Things You're Really Good At
It's self-promotion day!!!

  1. Singing really high, first thing in the morning. It's hereditary, my Mama is the best singer EVER! I'm not as good as her (she has perfect pitch, like Julie Andrews....however, I don't), but I can hold my own with people who do it for a living.
  2. Being a mom. It is my true joy, and I love it. Too bad I don't get paid to do it!
  3. Baking snickerdoodles. They are my signature cookie!
  4. Cross-stitch. Bubba's Mom is always commenting on how neat the back looks!
  5. Typing. I can type really fast.
  6. Designing a road. I can design the CRAP out of a road! Too bad I'm unemployed at the moment. But, I've got Mad Skills!
  7. Cooking. I love to cook, and I have yet to find a recipe I couldn't do. There are some that I choose NOT to do, but that doesn't mean I couldn't if I wanted to.
  8. Finding my way around. I have an EXCELLENT sense of direction, and I love maps, so I am never lost. Plus, I think I'm a good driver, although that is a matter of opinion for some people.
  9. Making lists. Now, accomplishing everything on those lists is another story, er, blog.

What about number 10? What do YOU think I'm good at?

  1. Germany
  2. Zihuatenejo, Mexico
  3. Southern France/Northern Spain
  4. Copenhagen, Denmark
  5. Destin, Florida
  6. Pacific Northwest (Seattle, Portland, etc.)
  7. Bahamas
  8. Montreal, Canada
  9. Scotland
  10. Alaska
Hopefully we'll get to visit No. 5 pretty soon, as the others are a bit outside of travel by car with a munchkin.

End of One Chapter, On To The Next

I am officially done nursing Drew. It's been 1 year, 2 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days. I know it's time, he is loving cow's milk and getting to be just too busy to snuggle and nurse with me anymore. And, we were down to once a day anyway, in the morning when we were both half-awake. But now it's over, and I'm wistful. Wishing I could have one more day. I know this is mostly because it means my baby is no longer a baby anymore, but a full-blown toddler. But I will miss that special bond I had with him. Breast-feeding is the best feeling in the world, and I absolutely LOVED it. I'm so blessed that I was able to do it for so long.

And, I think I'm ready to be done, too. It's time. No more worrying about not taking any type of drug for fear of what it will do to my milk supply. No more nursing bras (although I think they are rather comfortable! Just not that sexy....). No more having to get up with Drew on the weekends, Bubba can do that now! I'm happy to have my body back. Except now there is nothing to take my extra calories, so I'm going to have to start watching what/how much I eat again. Boo.

This is going to take some getting used to....

Open, Open, Open

Now you're all thinking of that old Mervyn's commercial, aren't you? Heh, heh.

This post does have a purpose, besides taking a trip down TV-land memory lane.

We are having an open house tomorrow, because our house is still on the market. I realize that an open house is not likely to get us a buyer. But, as our realtor pointed out, it couldn't hurt. He also suggested burying a statue of St. Joseph, the Patron Saint of real estate, in our yard. Also couldn't hurt. Now if I could just figure out where to buy something of that nature locally (instead of the Long Island Catholic supply store....LI is a bit far). If only I was in Italy, I'm sure I could buy a cheapo statue of Joe from a street venture selling that kitschy crap to tourists. But in Houston? Where?

In light of all this, today is cleaning day, and Bubba is edging the yard now that we finally got a new edge blade for the edger we borrowed from our neighbor. Gotta dust and vacuum and clean bathrooms and the kitchen and just make sure everything is just perfect. Anyone have any good tips for staging? Should I bake some cookies? Have fresh flowers all over the house? Bribe people with fruit? Bubba thinks we should do nothing, as no one is likely to show up anyway, but I'm trying to be optimistic about it.

Send us some positive vibes, people!

This One Is For Pigs

I wanted to have an * next to my name on Pigs blogroll, so here ya go!

That is all.

I Don't Know How I Did It

The orchid my mom gave me last year as a housewarming gift came back and bloomed again this year! It's just been sitting on the window sill in my kitchen, and I water it when I remember it's been a while since I watered it last. Here's some pics in sequence:

March 13, I notice that there is a long, slender stem with buds on it coming off of the once-empty stalk. I don't have a picture of the stalk prior to this, so just picture it without one. Needless to say, I was shocked!

April 1, buds getting ready to bloom!

April 6th, 1 blossom with another on the way

April 9th, with 3 blooms!

Yay! I'm so proud of myself, I've always wondered if it was a once-and-done kind of plant, or would come back year after year. Hooray!

FYI, cjh's orchid came back, too! Go check it out!

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Look what I found outside my kitchen window when I got home from a long weekend in Wellington!

It's an amaryllis plant, and I have no idea how it got there. See all the crappy wires and pipes coming out of the house around it? I clearly did not plant a beautiful flower in this particular spot, but who did? It's the side of the house that we pay the least amount of attention to, so it's even a wonder that I discovered it. And, I think Bubba's taken the weed-whacker to the leaves a few times, as we both thought it was just a weird plant of some sort. I never would have expected THIS!

I think it's God's little gift to me for the day. Here, you did nothing to deserve this plant, but here it is anyway. Isn't that what Grace is all about?

All Hail Apollo

I am a self-prescribed Sun-Worshiper. Yes, I said it. I LOVE to bask in the sun and feel it's full glory soaking into my skin. There is nothing I like more than a nice, deep, Perfect Tan, with no tan lines visible, and nothing I enjoy more than the pursuit of this perfection. I have been blessed with an olive complexion that doesn't burn readily, and thus makes the tanning more enjoyable than most, as I can sit out there all day, and as long as I have a minimal amount of protection, I'm guaranteed a nice glow.

I have been a junkie since my Tween days, laying out on the trampoline in our front yard bathed in SPF 4 (yep, at least I was trying) and baby oil. I spent my afternoons at the pool when it was open, which was every day but Monday in the summer. In high school, it was torture to be a distance runner and not be able to just lay around on warm spring afternoons after my race, because they run the 1600m next-to-last. Thus I was the loser sitting in the shade under the bleachers or on the bus. By my college years, the pursuit of the perfect tan was easily attainable by skipping classes on beautiful spring afternoons to sit in my tube top on the grass pretending to study. Or, in said tube top enjoying a frozen margarita. I have always been a naturalist....no tanning salons for me! Nope, tans were earned the hard way, sweating it out next to a pool, and timing your flips so you'd be even on both sides.

Now before you call your favorite dermatologist on my sun-soaked butt, let me just say that I am no longer in pursuit of the Perfect Tan. I wear my SPF 30 like a good girl when I'm out enjoying the sun's rays. ~sigh~ These days my Perfect Tan comes out of a bottle, thank-you-very-much. A few years ago I realized that my lovely complexion would last MUCH longer as I get older if I started wearing sun-screen and staying out of the sun at peak times. That, and wrinkly skin and skin cancer are not nearly as sexy. It's not nearly as fun, but much better for my health. That way I'll be around for Drew much longer (hopefully!).

But there is something about a sunny March day to make me long for my days of grabbing my swimsuit and beach towel and bask in the afternoon sun, paying my respects to Apollo.

The Sickies

We have had quite a week-and-a-half here in the Bubba Household. I managed to get another breast infection last Sunday, and was down for the count for a few days....fever, aches, the whole bit. Then on Thursday, I woke up at 2am and started puking. Had a 24-hour bug, I'm pretty sure, and it sucked. I basically didn't eat anything for 2 days, and Bubba's Mom came to stay Thursday night to help me with Drew Bear on Friday so I could try to recuperate. I was much better by Sunday, although still very weak.

Monday Night the Drew Bear lost his dinner, as well as his snack by the looks of it, right before bed, so I was very worried HE'S picked up a bit of this. He's also had a touch of diarrhea, which is just super-fun. He didn't throw up again Monday night, but Tuesday morning, about 1am, Bubba woke up and started puking. All night. In the midst of all THAT, Drew had a blow-out, I-smelled-it-before-he-woke-up diaper that prompted a laundry session in the middle of the night. So, yesterday wasn't so fun. To cap it all off, I had choir rehearsal last night (instead of tonight like normal) because of some speaker tonight that everyone wanted to go to. And, as we're on the verge of Holy Week and have a ton of services to sing next week, I really couldn't just skip it. So Bubba's Mom and Dad came, yet again, to stay with Drew Bear and help take care of Bubba. Katie-Katie-Mama-Lady was one tired puppy last night.

Drew is doing better, much better, although still has the squirts and is cutting a molar, poor thing. His mouth is really bothering him. And, Bubba has announced he's hungry this morning, so hopefully we are on the mend!

Needless to say, however, I have gone through and tried to sanitize EVERYTHING in this house. It would be just my luck to get this AGAIN a week from now....

  4. More daylight in the evenings to talk walks after Bubba gets home from work
  5. Baseball!!!
  6. Short sleeves and sandals
  7. Drew learning to walk
  8. The return of real TV and The Office!
  9. Budding trees (it always makes me think of New Beginnings)
  10. Moving to Dallas (as moving is such a pain, it's last on the list, but I'm still looking forward to it!)

Change Is Inevitable

We are listing our house tomorrow.

There are several of you readers out there that already know about this. But for those that don't, Bubba and I have decided to move back to Dallas. Bubba is taking his old job back, and I am hopefully going to get mine as well (although it's not for certain yet....keep your fingers crossed for me). Big Oil isn't as great as we thought it would be, and so we are headed back to our old hometown. Drew will just have to grow up in an American League town (GASP!!!).

I am excited about this, even though moving is a pain in the drain, and we only JUST got settled here. Change is a good thing, most of the time.

So, now we are first-time home-sellers. Hopefully there are some people out there who are looking for a house like ours, in a cute neighborhood, and think it will be PERFECT for them. If you happen to know someone that fits that description perfectly, (or if it fits YOU perfectly--Mike and Ang, hint, hint) send them our way!

In the meantime, just send us your prayers and happy-selling vibes.

Ten Movies That I've Intended To Watch But Haven't

This should be easy, as I've seen only 1 movie since Drew was born, and that was National Treasure Book of Secrets (which was good, btw).

  1. Becoming Jane
  2. Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
  3. Atonement
  4. 27 Dresses
  5. The Bourne Ultimatum
  6. Charlie Wilson's War
  7. Juno
  8. P.S. I Love You
  9. The Bucket List
  10. The Savages
Maybe one day I'll see these one DVD. Or maybe, just maybe, I'll see one here soon! I'm sure I can find a babysitter....

Opulence Out of Control

I watched the GMA 'Behind the Scenes' at the Kodak theater this morning, in preparation for the Oscars on Sunday. And I have to say, I am completely disgusted with all of it. Not the Oscars in general, just the spectacle of what they have to do to impress these super-stars with GOBS of money anyway. All the gold, and the roses, and the yada yada yada. I mean, come on!!! And that's not even the goodie bags of free crap they give the people who could afford to buy it anyway. It just chaps my hide (yes, I'm in TX, and we can say those kinds of things here) that the amount of money they spend on this crap could feed a small country for a year.

Grrr......

How Do You Measure A Year?

Five-hundred twenty-five thousand, six-hundred minutes
Five-hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights,
in sunsets,

in midnights,
in cups of coffee.

In inches,

in miles,

in laughter,
in strife.
In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life?

How about Love?

My baby is 1 year old today. My goodness, where did the time go? Oh yeah, see the lyrics above.* That's where they are....in the long days, sunsets (and sunrises), and cups of coffee to keep awake. In the inches measured, miles traveled and moved, first laughs, and midnight feedings.

I am a little sad, I'll admit, that my baby isn't a baby anymore. He is officially a toddler, and is well on his way to becoming a little boy. I see it every day as he grows and learns and figures things out and tries new things and fails and tries again and gets it. And I know this is just the beginning of all that, and I'm so thrilled that I'm getting to watch it all unfold.

But this first year has been so special, and I try so hard to remember the little moments that I know are fleeting. But I also try to realize this is just the beginning, and it only gets better from here!

Signals

It drives me absolutely BONKERS that people don't use their turn signal. It routinely happens as I'm driving around my little part of the world that I will have to slam on the brakes at the last minute because the jack-ass in front of me can't be bothered to flick his left hand on that little spigot sticking out of the side of the steering column. Apparently, it's just there to get in the way. God forbid you let me know WHY you are stepping on your brakes! And, I try hard not to follow too close (although Bubba might disagree), so most of the time these people have been braking for a while.

It also happens when changing lanes on the freeway! Which is almost worse, as the speeds are about 3 times what they are in my neighborhood! Makes me so nervous.

So what do I do? I honk at these people! Rightly so! Especially if they cut me off (which has happened a lot lately) and don't use their signal at the same time. Thank God I'm a defensive driver! But. Ya know what? The people I honk at honk right back at me. Like I have no reason to be honking at them, and am just being rude. Hello?!? What do you think that loud thing on the front of your steering wheel is actually FOR? Gaah.

People make me insane sometimes. I hate people. Except for all of you lovely people who read this, of course. Just don't cut me off or not use your blinker in front of me. You WILL feel my wrath.

Twilight Zone

Only in Houston can the rain storm be moving off to the East, but the winds are ALSO out of the East. Wha??? Shouldn't the rains be moving WITH the wind, not AGAINST them? Isn't that counter-productive?

WAY TO GO, TIMMIE!!!

Bubba's BFF, Tim Smith, ran the Houston Half-Marathon yesterday morning!

We of course had to go watch, and snapped this shot when he ran through our neighborhood, about mile 6. He was lookin' good!

We also drove downtown to see him run by before the finish, and were so excited to see him going strong at Mile 13 that we completely forgot to get a picture! Oh well, he was doing great, passing people, and he even beat the lead runner for the full marathon! Yeah, he ran half the distance, but still! That's better than I could do, I'll tell ya!

Stop by and tell Timmie congratulations!

Christmas Wrap-Up

Drew Bear loved his first Christmas. He is rolling in loot, thanks to all the family who just figured he could use 'one more little thing.' But, it wasn't disgusting, just enough. He loved unwrapping so much that he tried to unwrap mine and Bubba's gifts, too.

We even got snow for Christmas! Well, it snowed Christmas night, so we had a White Boxing Day. Somehow that doesn't have the same ring to it. He wasn't too sure about the wet, cold, white stuff, or his little snow suit, but he liked being outside, so he was cool.

Santa brought a Radio Flyer Walker-wagon to the Munchkin, and he is figuring it out. He will walk with it better if Mama is not around. Haven't figured out quite why, but so it goes....

Drew also got a taste of 'country livin' and picked some cotton! There is a record cotton crop in Collingsworth County this year, and there is cotton still in the field because there is no place for it at the overcrowded gin (does this remind anyone else of the Christmas Story, or is it just me?). So we went to the field out behind Mimi and Papa's house and picked some to take back to the Big City with us.

I also just HAD to post this one, because he is super cute and clearly has a high opinion of our family. (No, this is not a present from Mama and Daddy!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y'ALL!!!

CVS Commercial

Has anyone seen the new CVS pharmacy commercials? They're animated, and have this song that goes:

'It's not that unusual
when everything is beautiful.
It's just another ordinary
miracle today.'

I love the beautiful tune, and for some reason it always makes me stop and listen and appreciate the little things in life that truly ARE miracles.

I hope the next time you see that commercial, you will stop and take a moment to appreciate how blessed you are.

Random

I don't know what to blog about these days. I just can't seem to find the energy or desire to tell y'all (because there are so many of you!) what's going on in my life. Nor can I seem to think of anything interesting to write about.

We are all decorated for Christmas, after a search for the trimmings we left here when we moved to NYC. Couldn't remember where they were for a while, until Bubba's Mom found them at her place. So now we have a tree FULL of ornaments, we couldn't even put them all on! We'll have to either get a 2nd small tree next year, or a bigger one.

Not that the decorations matter, as I'm not feeling very Christmassy due to this sub-tropical weather. It's really making me irritated. And not helping my feelings of loss for NYC at Christmas-time.

Drew is one the move now something fierce! I almost can't keep up with him, he's into everything these days. So my computer time is limited now, along with pretty much everything else!

We had our church Christmas concert on Sunday night, and it was spectacular. I really enjoyed it, the music was beautiful, and the church was FULL of people, which was a pleasant surprise. But, I'm also glad it's over.

I'm looking forward to going to my folks up in the Panhandle for a week for Christmas. We're also stopping off in Dallas on the way for a few days to visit some family and friends and break up the 9+hour trip with an infant. My sister and brother and brother's girlfriend will also be coming to Wellington, so we'll have a nice, relaxing time with them! Christmas in a small town can't be beat. No traffic, just a few people to see, nothing to do but hang out at my parents fabulous house, and eat and chat and relax. I love it.

Guess that's all.

My Baby's Growing Up

In 2 days, he learned to sit up in his crib by himself (and thus everywhere else), pulled up on the coffee table unassisted, and CRAWLED across the floor! Not too fast just yet, but it was still crawling! And here I thought he'd never do it....

So now I have to get busy baby-proofing this place! I'm happy and excited for him, but sad he's growing up so fast at the same time.

Tamales With A Side of Puke

Drew threw up on me tonight.

We were out to dinner with an old friend of mine from my UT days, who lives in Boston and was in town visiting her folks. Mexican food, since she lives in Boston and can't get real Mexican food.

Drew had his dinner before we left, and was happily chowing down on his baby crack Cheerios. He starting coughing like he was choking on one, and was having a tough time, gagging and the whole bit, and he started crying after he got the little piece up. So I pick him up out of the high chair to comfort him, and he up-chucks. All. Over. Me. You could tell he'd had carrots for dinner. It was disgusting, and smelled disgusting.

Luckily, however, it was mainly on me and not on him. So it didn't bother me to leave him in the shirt with puke on the sleeve. And, I had my puffy vest to wear over my shirt, so you couldn't see my white shirt with orange puke all over it. He was fine afterwards, and went back to his Cheerios.

Poor little man. Hopefully the stains come out.

I'm Hungry

All. The. Time.

I have lost a few pounds the last few weeks or so, even my parents commented on how thin I look. I'm not bragging, trust me. I eat A LOT, too. I'm a bit worried because I can't seem to get enough calories! It's got to be the breast-feeding. I am supposed to get 500 extra calories a day, because Drew will take what he needs, and if I didn't get more, I'd waste away! I'm still pretty flabby in the mid-section (that's what happens when you get such a big belly), but all my pre-preggo clothes are a bit loose!

I was going just fine, but for some reason I just can't seem to eat enough these days. I'm trying to be healthy about it, too. However, sometimes eating a whole box of Nilla Wafers is all that will satisfy me. Hmmm, you'd think I was pregnant! Don't worry, I'm not.

Lately I've been craving protein. At least I think that's what it is. I can't quite decide, actually. All I know is that my cravings aren't being satisfied, and protein seems to be the main thing that is missing during the day. Because who just randomly has meat laying around to snack on? Besides bologna, which isn't exactly the best for you, but it may come to that here in a minute....

For now, I'm eating a bag of chips and some salsa. At least the salsa is good for me. It's veggies, right?

Happy Halloween!!!

Way. Too. Early.

I drove down Westheimer yesterday, and almost hit the car in front of me when I drove by the shopping center called Highland Village. They are ALREADY all decked out for Christmas! Lights on all the palm trees, big red bows on several of the stores, wreaths. The whole nine yards. I can't believe it. It's not even HALLOWEEN for God's sakes! I'm appalled.

Do You Smell That?

I ran in the store this afternoon to pick up a few things, mainly some produce, but I went looking for a card for my Dad's birthday, too. I'm standing in the card aisle, with Drew in the shopping cart, and all of a sudden I smell It. The unmistakable smell of Poopy Diaper. As I was just running in a for a few things, I didn't bring the diaper bag in with me, just a burp rag. Of course. So I just told Drew he'd have to sit in it until we get home. I bend down to make sure, but I don't smell anything. Huh. I stand back up, move a few feet away, and catch a big whiff again. So I smell the backside this time. Nada. Drew's pooh's typically give themselves away, but I was gettin' nothin' when I actually smelled his diaper region.

I could only concur that someone came down the card aisle, paused by my baby to drop some produce, and walked away, leaving the unsuspecting baby as the culprit! How dare they!?!

Sure enough, I get home, and there's no pooh. I hope that person feels better for blaming a baby for their stinky farts. Shame on them!

Behind

I'm a bit behind this week. We went to Wes and Roxi's wedding in NOLA last weekend and had a great time! My folks came to be Drew Bear's baby-sitters, so we could stay and feel like adults, with beverages and everything. We even got to parade through the streets after the reception with a band and cops stopping traffic and everything! It was way cool. Except that it was hot and muggy that day. Would have been nice for a bit of cooler weather. Oh well.

And this week I've just been trying to get caught up. Not much going on other than that. Not much time for the internet these days, what can I say? Taking care of an infant is a full-time job. I have to remind myself sometimes that even though I got nothing accomplished today, including bathing myself, I still am doing a good job, in that my son is fed (well-fed, did I mention he's 22 pounds?), dressed, and happy. It's hard, considering what I did for a living in my previous life was very project/results-oriented. But I figure this project is a work-in-progress, with an extended contract. Too bad it doesn't pay more.... :)

10 TV Shows I'd Like To Have On DVD
Actually, I never watched much tv as a kid, as we only had 3 channels and never really watched much. TV was a treat at my Mu's house. Gee, I'm from the sticks, huh?

  1. Sex and the City--I already do, actually, but I'm still including it, it's my list!
  2. Friends--because I want to watch all in a row, and syndication doesn't cut it
  3. Seinfeld
  4. Midsomer Murders
  5. Northern Exposure--We only have Season 1
  6. Gilmore Girls--V. sad it's over
  7. Magnum--who wouldn't want more of Tom Selleck?
  8. Rick Steves--because it always inspires me to travel
  9. Pride and Prejudice--I know it's a mini-series, but it was made-for-TV!
  10. Law and Order

Monday Craziness

Bubba is sick. He stayed home today and has mainly slept, thank God. He's being an ok patient this time, he's usually a big baby about it, but he's actually listening to Nurse Katie and taking his medicine.

I, also, have a sniffle, which I am putting down to allergies, as I have no fever or aches like Bubba does. Only the sneezes that occasionally throw me into fits. It's no fun. I bought 10 boxes of Kleenex at the store, just in case this lasts a while.

Speaking of the store, it is CRAZY in that place on Monday! I usually wait and go on Tuesday, as that's usually when the freshest goods are in, but I think Monday is the day of the best sales. I don't have a lot of space for storing extra food, so I usually don't go in for the 10/$10 steals (except on the Kleenex this time), I will only buy a few of the sale items, mainly what I need. What can I say, no storage in NYC has scarred me. Anyway, I'm glad I left the Munchkin at home with Daddy (with strict instructions NOT to touch him unless absolutely necessary!), because it would have taken me much longer.

Speaking of the Munchkin, he is thankfully NOT affected by our sniffles. He had a fever on Friday, way before Bubba ever showed any symptoms, but since then, nada. Not yet, anyway. The only thing I forgot at the store was the jumbo-size hand-sanitizer with pump feature. Might be nice to stave off the germies over the next few days. Oh well, I think of it as just strengthening his immune system.

10 Things I've Been Putting Off

  1. Painting the trim on 2 of the 3 new doors we had installed (already did the one in the dining room).
  2. Going to the dentist. Just need to get a new dentist, that's the problem.
  3. Working out on a regular basis.
  4. Getting my haircut (although I'm doing this tomorrow)
  5. Getting rid of all the vines on the back chain-link fence
  6. Replacing said metal fence with a wooden one and putting new plants there
  7. Putting new flowers in the front beds
  8. Hanging pictures in the remainder of the house
  9. Making Drew's 'real' room (not the nursery) less of a junk room and more of a guest room!
  10. Getting my resume together, in case I want/need to go back to work sooner rather than later.

Wordless Wednesday

Enough Is Enough

I am tired of hot weather. Bubba and I both are.

Yes, I realize that I am from Texas, and should be used to 90 degrees in September. But I lived for 3 years in a place that claims to have actual seasons that correspond roughly with Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. I don't mind summer at all, in fact it's great! And hot weather in July and August is to be expected, heck, enjoyed!

BUT!!!

90 degrees in September, especially in late September, is just ridiculous. I am REALLY tired of not being able to take Drew outside from 10am to 7pm. I'm sick of putting off things I'd like to do in the yard 'until it gets cooler,' because as we all know, yard work is not really something you can do in short, separate periods of time; you have to commit to it for a few hours. Not really conducive to having an infant that shouldn't be out in the hot weather for that long.

Not only that, but I'd love to be able to sit outside in the evening while we grill or something and not sweat through my t-shirt. Gross, I know.

And, and, and!!!

Our electric bill is atrocious! I know we live in an old, inefficient house with lots of old, single-pane, original windows, but it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so bloody hot outside!

I'm going to go take a cold shower now.

  9. Call Bubba at work and bother him
  10. Play with Drew Bear

Not Vieing for Mother-of-the-Year

How bad is it that I just made a quick trip down the street to our neighborhood liquor store because I'm almost out of vodka? That's all I needed....vodka.

Did I mention that I carried my son in with me?

I tried not to look like a wine-o Mama that HAD to have her vodka tonic this afternoon.

The only thing missing was that my son was actually dressed, and not just in a diaper. THAT would have been very bad.

I'm really starting to enjoy this list!

10 Cities I'd Live In
I could list a whole lot more than 10, but this is a start!

  1. NYC (I know I've already done that, but I'd like to do it again)
  2. Paris
  3. Seattle
  4. London
  5. Siena, Italy
  6. Baltimore
  7. Savannah
  8. Denver
  9. Brenham, Texas
  10. Charlottesville, Virginia

7 Months Old!

He got 2 teeth on Friday, too!

It's Always Something

So, Bubba and I ordered a new table WAY back in May to go into our brand new dining room. We figured we are home owners now, it's time to get a grown-up table and chairs. We went to this neighborhood furniture store just down the street from our house that is a place where they have samples of furniture there, but you order from the manufacturer's catalog to get exactly the piece you want. Delivery time was 6-8 weeks, which put us into July getting the table, but that was fine, as we had to paint anyway. We finally called about it around the Fourth, and the guy apologized, saying the chairs were here, but the table had to be sent back because it was not up to standard, and he would take care of the shipping and knock 10% off for our trouble. Fine, we still hadn't painted.

Well, the long-awaited table and chairs are here, were delivered this afternoon. BUT! One of the legs is not like the others, and can not be bolted onto the table. The holes that the bolts fit into are smaller on one leg, and the bolts that were sent do not fit the holes. Of course.

So right now, sitting in my dining room upside down, is a table with only 2 legs on it. The delivery men left Leg No. 3 off so that whoever comes by to fix this will see what the problem is. I called the furniture place, and he said someone would be out tomorrow to take a look. TOMORROW!!?!! What about today? What if I was having a dinner party tonight and needed this table? (I'm not, I'm just sayin'.) I would be screwed!

The table is beautiful, as are the chairs, but this place has lost ALL future business we were going to throw their way. We even had our eye on the side-board piece that matches the table, for a future purchase, but that's not going to happen now!!!

GRRRRR....

Where's Our Cut?

We're sitting here watching the Astros vs. the Dodgers, and Bubba just said the EXACT SAME THING that the analyzer/color guy said! And a mere SECONDS before he did! I mean, almost verbatim.

This happens all the time, and I just have to look at him, tell him he's in the wrong business, and wonder how much sports analysts make. Because Bubba would be a very good baseball analyst.

Not that we need any more talk about sports. But I'd like to get a piece of that action, cash-wise.

Never Again

Drew Bear and I spent this week in my hometown in the sticks visiting my folks and my grandmother. Got a bonus day of my brother, too, who was in from DC for Ex-Students' Weekend. We had a good time, once we finally got there.

We flew into Amarillo via American Airlines, using the last of my AA miles because it was going to be rather expensive if I didn't. Because it's American, I had to fly through DFW. I even made sure that the days of flying (round trip, dontcha know) lined up well with his naps and feeding, so I wouldn't have to flash the plane to feed the munchkin.

Ah, the best-laid plans.

The flight to Dallas Monday morning was no problem, and I even found this cool lounge next to the Starbucks in Terminal C with comfortable chairs that I could feed Drew in. I grab some lunch, change terminals, and get to my gate, only to discover that the plane taking off BEFORE us hasn't even left yet, and it's now time for us to board! The plane bound for Amarillo was sitting out there on the tarmac waiting for the mechanical problem to be fixed for the plane bound for Springfield. I thought, 'those poor people,' and waited for the soon-to-come announcement for a gate change for the Amarillo flight. That did, indeed, happen, but now we were for sure going to be late. It was one of those 'Boarding all rows, come-on-down, people!' Everyone's on board, but we are just sitting there. The captain comes on and says there's a problem with the floor in the cargo hold, and Mechanical has to come over to take a look. (Ironic that this is another mechanical problem, just like the Springfield plane above.) They are going to sit tight and will get right back to us. When they do, we are informed that we are going to have to de-plane because it's going to take a few hours, and they aren't sure what they're going to do with us yet, if we'll get another plane or not, but PLEASE stay in the Gate area until further notified. Oh, and we aren't allowed to get our gate-checked bags, so I'm not going to have my stroller for the duration and have to hold my 20-pound son the entire time. 'How am I going to pee?' I wonder to myself, because you just can't set your infant on the floor of the bathroom, or let a stranger hold him. So you get the picture. I had to leave the Gate area to go to the bathroom, and was hurrying the entire time, just in case the lady came back to tell us we were leaving. I'd hate to miss it! Didn't happen.

TWO HOURS LATER, we get on the exact same plane. In that time, there was only ONE update as to our status, and that was that we were going to have to wait a half-hour before they decided what to do with us. ??? Get us another friggin' plane! This is your main Hub airport, SURELY you have another little small jet to fly us to Amarillo! But no.

So, the Schedule is all shot to hell, I fed my son in the airport YET again, and we made it to Amarillo 2.5 hours later than planned.

Oh, and I made the news that night! One of the local stations just happened to be in the airport to report on the National story about American flights being delayed all the time. She ran into my family, waiting for me to arrive, and hit the jack-pot. I had an on-camera interview, so did my mom, and we were on the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock news! It was very exciting. I'm a celebrity now in my home-town.

On the way back, my flight to Dallas was delayed waiting on the arriving plane. No biggie, as I had a long lay-over and would rather hang with my parents than alone in DFW. THEN, THEN, THEN! The flight to Houston was delayed BECAUSE THE PLANE HAD A MECHANICAL PROBLEM! I just had to laugh at that.

I will never fly American again from Houston to Amarillo. Continental has a direct flight, and I will be doing that from now on. They've lost my business. Customer service was bad on all flights, too. But that's another story, this one's long enough.

So, that's 3 of 4 flights that were delayed, 2 for mechanical problems. Pigs, I need me a letter.

Put Me In, Coach!

He did really good at his first Astro's game, and Roy O got the win over Greg Maddux 3-1! He got to see 2 future Hall-of-Famers, who could ask for more for his first game?

Finito

I'm done. It was fabulous. HP#7 lived up to my expectations, and that's all I'll say so I don't spoil it for those of you who haven't read it.

But like cjh, I'm a little sad that it's over. I'm tempted to go back and read a few of the parts again, as I get so excited to see where something is going in the plot that I tend to rush through it. I've always done that, read too fast and miss some things. But that's ok, this is one book I feel I'll read several times over. Probably the whole series, actually. Much to Bubba's chagrin, as he hates when I read them because I tend to get immersed and do nothing else, and he doesn't understand why I would want to re-read something I've already read. But, that's the difference between him and me.

Now I can get busy watching the movies, as I have waited until I read all the books to see any of the movies.

I'm reading Harry Potter #7 and don't have time to do that AND take care of Drew AND blog at the same time. So, until I finish, there will be a lack of new blogs to read. My apologies, but I know you all understand.

To keep you satiated, here's a picture of the munchkin swimming.

ARRRGGG!!!

Yesterday I received BILL NUMBER 3 from the stupid hospital in NYC from when I fell in the street and spent the day in the hospital. I received the first bill before we even left NY back in March. I thought it was weird, as my actual hospital stay for the birth of my son had already been paid. So I called and gave them the right information and address, etc., and left it at that. I got ANOTHER bill in May, so I called AGAIN to give them the right information.

Now, when I got bill no. 3 yesterday, I was a bit miffed and called the insurance company directly to see what was going on, if they had denied my claim and why, etc. I called, and they have NO RECORD of receiving a bill for that date of service! WTF? So I figured that the hospital must have gotten it wrong, so I called THEM. Nope, they've submitted the bill about a dozen times (so said the irritated woman on the phone), and it's been denied every time. And, she said they would submit it ONE MORE TIME, then that was it. What does that mean? They'll come after me for the exorbitant amount of $$$ they want for said service?

I am about done with all this stupid mess. I have had to deal with the insurance people denying Drew's coverage because he's not on my plan, until I call them and remind them that yes, he's covered for 30 days on my plan. Why don't they know this? It's THEIR stupid plan! Anyway, I got another bill yesterday for some lab work done for Mr. Andrew Barron, so I asked the insurance lady about that one, too, and ONCE AGAIN, she said it was denied because he wasn't on my plan. Then she said, oh wait, yes he is! DUH!!! Arrggg....

Of the things that irritate me and just ruin my day....this tops the list.

To Shave or To Smell Lovely

This morning on Rachel Ray, Rachel was discussing the ONE thing she couldn't live without on a desert island. Well, she actually listed 3, but it's her show, so she can do what she wants. She chose her under-eye cream, razor, and breath-mints.

HOWEVER!

Then she had kind of an 'ask the audience' thing, and these women were standing up and telling what they COULDN'T live without on a desert island. I was appalled at these spoiled, shallow women! One silly girl said she couldn't live without her eye-lash curler. (Um, I don't even OWN one of these, but my make-up drawer is another post....it's very small. Mascara, yes. Eyelash curler, no.) Another girl said her Victoria's Secret bra. OK, I might want a bra on my desert island, but I'd rather just have a bikini and deal with it.

The icing on the cake was the woman who said she couldn't live without her Prada heels. I mean, PLEASE! I'm all about fabulous footwear, but I don't think I would choose them over toilet paper on my desert island.

What would you choose?

I think I would choose some sort of personal hygiene item, like deodorant or toothpaste or something of that nature.

Ooh, or maybe coffee (she says as she has cup no. 2 this morning).

I KNEW I was cool! :)

I know, 3rd post in a day. I'm on a roll...

You Are Austin

A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll.
You're totally weird and very proud of it.
Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way.

Famous Austin residents: Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock, Andy Roddick

Movie Quote: Blast From the Past

Can anyone name this movie? I watched it today and was reminded how much I loved this movie.

'Sinead O-Rebellion! Shock me, shock me, shock me with your deviant behavior!'

Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

Bug's Life

I have a problem in my yard. In the form of little snails. They are everywhere. The kid 2 doors down even likes to come to my yard and look for them. Fabulous.

I wouldn't mind them and their slimy trails so much, except that they are eating my basil! Ironically, no other herbs have snails feasting on them. Not sure why, but they have good taste, the basil is my favorite, too.

We are also having major issues with mosquitoes (who isn't?). But as we have yet to do anything with the drainage problem in our yard, we have standing water in both the front and the back yards, as well as the ditch in front of our house, every time it rains. And, as you all know, it's rained A LOT the last few weeks.

So, this all meant that I needed a trip to my local gardening store. Which I did today, and came back with a veritable arsenal of defenses against these pesky pests. Who knew there was such a thing as snail bait?!? You did? Well, I didn't. That's what happens when you don't have a yard, or even plants for that matter, for 3+ years.

Here's hoping it works, because I want to be able to take the Drew Bear outside of an evening without having him eaten alive by mosquitoes, and I REALLY want to be able to use all my basil for yummy things like pesto and tomato sauce.

Dream Weaver

Does anyone ever have dreams involving the people you watch on TV?

I occasionally dream about the girls from SATC, and I'm in the dream with them. Like I'm inserting myself into one of the shows. I have frequently had dreams with the 'Friends' cast, but since the last season, those have kind of waned.

But last night was a first. I had a dream that I ran off with Jim from 'The Office.' He left Pam for me, and we were taking a train somewhere and making out and stuff. It was awkward because Pam was one of my best friends. I was in high school or college, not sure which (so Bubba was not in the picture, as we hadn't met yet....that's my reason anyway!), but I think it might have been college because I was working a part time job and that's how I met Jim. No one else from the cast was there, so it's not like my job was actually at 'The Office.'

This was one of the most real of all these type of dreams I've had. I actually woke up in the middle, went back to sleep and continued the dream. And I'm still thinking about it now! The weirdest is that I haven't even watched 'The Office' in several weeks. So how in the world did Jim pop into my head? Weird.

10 on Tuesday

I have never done one of these before, but am intrigued and just have to participate. Fun!

  1. Godfather: 'Leave the gun, take the cannoli.' (can't believe I didn't see any Godfather on anyone's lists.)
  2. Bull Durham: 'What we need is a rain-out.' 'Lolly-gaggers!'
  3. Pulp Fiction: 'Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.'
  4. Lion King: 'They call me, MR. PIG!!' (I know this is a spoof from another movie, but I have always quoted it.)
  5. You've Got Mail: Don't you just love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies.'
  6. My Fair Lady: 'I washed my face and hands before I come, I did.'
  7. Rushmore: 'I saved Latin, what did you ever do?'
  8. When Harry Met Sally: 'Men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.' 'You're right, you're right, I know you're right.' 'You're high maintenance, but you THINK you're low maintenance.'
  9. Gone With the Wind: 'I don' know nuthin' 'bout birthin' no babies!'
  10. Jerry Maguire: 'You had me at hello.'
My sister and I have lots more, but I can't think of them right now because it's past my bedtime.

Fine Father's Day Fun

We went out to dinner last night, to a Mexican food place right down the street that is fast and cheap....the way all good Mexican food should be.

We order, and the Drew Bear is starting to get impatient in his bucket seat. He is normally fine as long as we don't just ignore him entirely. Well. Not last night. He was getting more and more vocal, so I finally caved and got him out to sit in my lap.

That's when I discovered the gobs of poo. All. Over. Him. It had soaked through his onesie and was lining the back of his bucket seat, too. Poor kiddo. No wonder he was fussing!

So, this being the kind of place with a one-seater bathroom and no changing facilities, we proceed to strip him naked right there at our booth and clean him up. Luckily, there was no one around us, because they would have been completely disgusted. And also luckily, I keep a change of clothes in every diaper bag and handy little baggies to put the offending diapers and clothes in for just such an occasion.

Of course, about the time we get him stripped down, our food arrives. It was literally less than 5 minutes after we ordered. She leaves the food at the next table so we can finish getting him cleaned up. Which we do, then proceed to sit down to our tacos and tostadas with beans and rice as if nothing had happened.

You know you are a parent when you can change a blow-out poopy diaper then eat refried beans right afterwards without even thinking about it.

Un-believable

I know there are several of you out there that are BIG American Idol fans. I don't choose to watch it because most of the time I don't think those people are that great and it doesn't entertain me to watch it. We have differing opinions about good singers, so be it. Bygones. I don't want to argue it here.

BUT.

If you haven't seen this clip from the Brits version of the show, you are missing out. THIS guy has real talent, and he should win the whole bloomin' thing. If he doesn't, then it proves my point that the whole thing is crap. He was so good, I cried. Granted, the song makes me cry anyway. But he really was THAT good.

Enjoy.

It's Been A While

My Mama has been here the past week and I've been hanging out with her, so no time to blog. We did a TON of stuff around the house and yard. We got ALL the boxes unpacked and taken to the recycle center, along with all the paper. We changed out the drawer/cabinet pulls per cjh's recommendation. (Thanks again!) Mama worked her magic on the plants and bought us a lot of flowers and plants for our beds. We got trees trimmed and weeds pulled and an herb garden started. And, of course, we played with the Drew Bear. He's getting so big! Literally. He weighs 16 lbs 10 oz. That's 93rd percentile, for those of you interested.

So, I'm back now to the world of blogging. But I'm sure now I've lost the measly few readers I had anyway, so it will just be me talking to myself again. Oh well.

My Next 30 Years

I left my 20s behind on Sunday. It kind of came and went without too much fan-fare, as we're in the midst of moving and getting on with the rest of our lives. Which is very appropriate for this blog subject. I think Tim McGraw says it best in his song, so I'm going to plagiarize terribly and post the words here. I don't have time to come up with something better, I'm a busy Mama who barely has time to post at all, let alone any original, titillating material. I've never been one for making a big deal out of birthdays anyway, so here ya go.

I think I'll take a moment, celebrate my age.
The ending of an era, and the turning of a page.
Now it's time to focus in on where I go from here.
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years.

In my next thirty years I'm gonna have some fun.
Try to forget about all the crazy things I've done. (not really, I'm proud of all that)
Maybe now I've conquered all my adolescent fears,
And I'll do it better in my next thirty years.

My next thirty years I'm gonna settle all the scores,
Cry a little less, laugh a little more.
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear.
Figure out just what I'm doing here
In my next thirty years.

Oh my next thirty years, I'm gonna watch my weight.
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late.
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers, (yeah, right!)
Maybe I'll remember my next thirty years.

My next thirty years will be the best years of my life.
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife. (well, my hubby)
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here, in my next thirty years.

Maybe later I'll come up with something original. For now, this will have to do.

I Hate Computers

I just got a new computer, and it's fabulous.

At least it WAS. Until yesterday when something happened. I don't know what, but something did. Now my WiFi is connected, but I have almost no signal from my wireless router, which means the only reason I'm able to post this blog is because I'm connected directly to the modem. Plugged in. And I hate plugs. The old computer sitting RIGHT next to me is connected and is fine. But my spanking new machine? Nada. BOOO!

Plus, I can't get Outlook to actually SEND my email! Receive, yes. Send, no. It's not a good day, Tater.

Why do I always have these problems? What in the world could be causing this? Do I just have bad karma? Is it a sign we need to leave this crappy apartment? Is it a sign I've become too dependent on my laptop? Whatever it is, it's ruined the start of my day.

Thou Shalt Not Covet

I'm not really a 'coveting' person by nature. I just don't really ever WANT things that others have.

BUT....

I am coveting Kelly Rippa's super-toned arms. I have mentioned before how super-cute I think she is, and I wish I could ever look that good after 3 kids (maybe, one of these day). But her arms are awesome. Makes me want to lift a bunch of groceries over my head.

Affirmation--10 Things

You know you have an infant in your house when:

  1. You can not glance around any room of the house without spying some sort of baby paraphernalia.
  2. You plan your day in 3-hour increments (roughly).
  3. Your spouse gets home and asks what you did today, and you have no idea.
  4. Poop and spit-up clean-up are everyday occurrences.
  5. Your wardrobe is limited to outfits you can nurse in without pulling it up over your head.
  6. You haven't watched a feature-length film without commercials since baby arrived, let alone been to the movies.
  7. Your husband is close to sending your boobies a 'Miss You' card.
  8. You want to discuss your breast infection with anyone who will listen (most men DON'T want to know).
  9. You go out to eat at ridiculously early times....it's just you and the old folks.
  10. And last but not least....
You love it and can't remember your life any other way!

Good Boy!

Drew Bear slept through the night last night! He went down about 10pm, and woke up this morning at 6:30! I, of course, woke up at his usual 5am, because my own body clock is set for then, and because the boobs fill up and get rather sore and leaky. TMI, I know. Pigs knows of which I speak, and Geek, just something for you to look forward to.

But leaky boobs are ok! Well worth it for the extra rest. Let's just hope I didn't just jinx it by exclaiming so much....

I just had to post this picture from last night. He's getting stronger and stronger!

Fingers Crossed!

We have the house inspection today. I'm not really nervous, I just hope they don't find a termite family decided to move in before we did! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Car-ma

So, the new car I bought on Tuesday? It's a beautiful silver Honda Accord. I love it, and Bubba got us a great deal on it (he has the best credit of anyone I know).

But, the Karma Gods decided to mess with us yesterday. I got rear-ended while turning left into a Dairy Queen for a Blizzard (haven't had one since I hit DQ Country). :( No one was hurt, but my car will need body work done, the bumper is all crunched.

It gets better.

The jack-ass that hit me was driving a POS suburban from the early 90s that looked like it was being held together with duct tape. He had to be towed away. But you know what that means....there is NO WAY this guy has insurance. Which, of course, he didn't. I've never seen Bubba's Mom so mad....she screamed so much at that guy I'm sure she scared the be-jesus out of him! The car also wasn't registered in his name, and turns out he JUST got out of jail last week for TOO MANY DRIVING TICKETS and doesn't even have a license!!! Why do I have to always get hit by morons like this!?! Why? Ironically, in the state of Texas, the cop would have arrested him on the spot if his license was SUSPENDED, but the fact that he didn't have one in the first place just gets him a ticket. WTF? &*(#$*)#(*!

So, my brand new beautiful car will be in the shop getting a little cosmetic work done. Luckily Bubba's Sis's husband works at a dealership and is going to get it taken care of for us. We're letting our insurance go after this jack-ass and maybe we'll get the $250 we're out for being hit by an un-insured motorist. But I doubt it.

The good news is that no one was hurt, not even the two kids the jack-ass had in the front seat of his two-seater suburban, likely un-buckled. We're going to be at Bubba's Mom's for another week, so we don't need the car right now anyway. And Drew wasn't with us, so I didn't have to worry about him.

Needless to say, I'm not thrilled to be driving a car again after 3 years of not having to deal with this shit. If you are driving the streets of Houston, I won't be hard to spot....I'll be the young woman driving like an old lady in the right lane, going just under the speed limit and shaking my fist at all the jack-asses passing me.

We're Ba-ack!!!

Well, after taking a few days for blogger to figure out who I am (I ALWAYS seem to have problems with the new blogger), I can update y'all!

We made the Grand Move just fabulously! Drew did wonderful on both flights to TX (to Dallas, then on to Amarillo), and we all decided that First Class is the WAY to go. We got warm nuts in a little bowl before our fabulous lunch! Anyway, we had a great time hanging out with my family in Wellington. Drew met his Papa and his Mu (my grandmother) and a bunch of other people, and even got a little baby Bible from my home-town church! We made our final flight to Houston on Monday, and that went fine as well. We officially live in Houston now. Although I feel like I'm still on vacation because I'm living out of a suitcase at Bubba's Mom's house. But that's ok, because there's lots of people around to help take care of the Drew-Bear!

We bought two cars this week, and made our first house-hunting trip. We're back in the swing of things, Texas-Style.

Poop

No, not what you're thinking....

It SNOWED here yesterday! Off and on several times during the day. It's APRIL for God's sake!! I am so sick of this crappy, cold weather. It's ruining my plans for my last weekend in New York.

De-Nile

They say denial is a river in Africa.

Well, it's also an apartment on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.

I am moving in a week, and I'm in denial of this fact. It doesn't seem possible that in a few short days, I won't live here anymore. I won't be a New Yorker. But does living here only 3 years even qualify you as a New Yorker? I'm thinking no. But hey, I've definitely been 'a local.' But then again, I've always been a Texan, and I don't think you can claim two locations at once. So I'll stick with Texas.

I think the reason for the state I'm in is due to the fact that we are not packing ourselves for this Great Migration across the country. The Packers are coming next Monday. So my apartment looks like it has for the past few months or so, with only my boxes from work and my boxed up maternity clothes sitting in one corner to signify that Change is in the air. Mentally I'm preparing only for an extended 3-week vacation to TX, as that's all I have to pack for. It's very weird.

I waiver back and forth every day as to whether or not I'm actually ready to leave this great city. On the days that I have to fight the ladies in the laundry room, I'm desperate to get out of here. And on the days when I can't get a cab and need to get somewhere with the munchkin, and the subway is out because I can't easily get up and down the subway stairs with the stroller. But most of the rest of the time, I'm still enjoying living here. I love walking everywhere in my neighborhood. I like the close access to the parks. I even enjoy NOT owning a car. But mainly, this has been my home for the past 3 years, and it's going to be hard to say good-bye.

I think THAT is the main reason I'm in De-Nile. Good-bye seems like forever. And I'm not ready for that. I'm ready to get on with my life, and I know this is a good thing for my family. But it's still hard.

They Just Don't Come No Better Than A Bear

He was thrilled to be in this, once again. Sadly, he's about to out-grow it. The bears grow so fast. ~sigh~

Boggie Man

My son has the biggest boogers. Now that I've mastered the use of the snot sucker, I pull one out of each nostril almost daily. It never ceases to amaze me that something so big could come out of something so small.

He takes after his Daddy.

Star Treatment

Am I the only person who thinks Star Jones looks gross? I mean, she was grossly overweight, and I'm glad she's trimmed down, but I think she went a little far. I'm not a fan.

Patting My Own Back

I bought our tickets for The Great Texas Move today. And I only paid $267 for 2 first-class tickets to Amarillo (one way, of course)!!! Well, the flight to Dallas is first class, as there is only coach on the small plane to Amarillo.

This should make flying with a newborn MUCH easier. Plus, we get a meal AND cocktails! I rule!!!

OK, self-promotion segment over.

The Sweetest Thing

It is just the joy of my life to watch my son nurse. It is the sweetest picture EVER!!! Nothin' better than that....

(A close second is watching my son sleep on his daddy's chest while Daddy naps.)
