Bug's Life

I have a problem in my yard. In the form of little snails. They are everywhere. The kid 2 doors down even likes to come to my yard and look for them. Fabulous.

I wouldn't mind them and their slimy trails so much, except that they are eating my basil! Ironically, no other herbs have snails feasting on them. Not sure why, but they have good taste, the basil is my favorite, too.

We are also having major issues with mosquitoes (who isn't?). But as we have yet to do anything with the drainage problem in our yard, we have standing water in both the front and the back yards, as well as the ditch in front of our house, every time it rains. And, as you all know, it's rained A LOT the last few weeks.

So, this all meant that I needed a trip to my local gardening store. Which I did today, and came back with a veritable arsenal of defenses against these pesky pests. Who knew there was such a thing as snail bait?!? You did? Well, I didn't. That's what happens when you don't have a yard, or even plants for that matter, for 3+ years.

Here's hoping it works, because I want to be able to take the Drew Bear outside of an evening without having him eaten alive by mosquitoes, and I REALLY want to be able to use all my basil for yummy things like pesto and tomato sauce.

Dream Weaver

Does anyone ever have dreams involving the people you watch on TV?

I occasionally dream about the girls from SATC, and I'm in the dream with them. Like I'm inserting myself into one of the shows. I have frequently had dreams with the 'Friends' cast, but since the last season, those have kind of waned.

But last night was a first. I had a dream that I ran off with Jim from 'The Office.' He left Pam for me, and we were taking a train somewhere and making out and stuff. It was awkward because Pam was one of my best friends. I was in high school or college, not sure which (so Bubba was not in the picture, as we hadn't met yet....that's my reason anyway!), but I think it might have been college because I was working a part time job and that's how I met Jim. No one else from the cast was there, so it's not like my job was actually at 'The Office.'

This was one of the most real of all these type of dreams I've had. I actually woke up in the middle, went back to sleep and continued the dream. And I'm still thinking about it now! The weirdest is that I haven't even watched 'The Office' in several weeks. So how in the world did Jim pop into my head? Weird.

10 on Tuesday

I have never done one of these before, but am intrigued and just have to participate. Fun!

  1. Godfather: 'Leave the gun, take the cannoli.' (can't believe I didn't see any Godfather on anyone's lists.)
  2. Bull Durham: 'What we need is a rain-out.' 'Lolly-gaggers!'
  3. Pulp Fiction: 'Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.'
  4. Lion King: 'They call me, MR. PIG!!' (I know this is a spoof from another movie, but I have always quoted it.)
  5. You've Got Mail: Don't you just love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies.'
  6. My Fair Lady: 'I washed my face and hands before I come, I did.'
  7. Rushmore: 'I saved Latin, what did you ever do?'
  8. When Harry Met Sally: 'Men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.' 'You're right, you're right, I know you're right.' 'You're high maintenance, but you THINK you're low maintenance.'
  9. Gone With the Wind: 'I don' know nuthin' 'bout birthin' no babies!'
  10. Jerry Maguire: 'You had me at hello.'
My sister and I have lots more, but I can't think of them right now because it's past my bedtime.

Fine Father's Day Fun

We went out to dinner last night, to a Mexican food place right down the street that is fast and cheap....the way all good Mexican food should be.

We order, and the Drew Bear is starting to get impatient in his bucket seat. He is normally fine as long as we don't just ignore him entirely. Well. Not last night. He was getting more and more vocal, so I finally caved and got him out to sit in my lap.

That's when I discovered the gobs of poo. All. Over. Him. It had soaked through his onesie and was lining the back of his bucket seat, too. Poor kiddo. No wonder he was fussing!

So, this being the kind of place with a one-seater bathroom and no changing facilities, we proceed to strip him naked right there at our booth and clean him up. Luckily, there was no one around us, because they would have been completely disgusted. And also luckily, I keep a change of clothes in every diaper bag and handy little baggies to put the offending diapers and clothes in for just such an occasion.

Of course, about the time we get him stripped down, our food arrives. It was literally less than 5 minutes after we ordered. She leaves the food at the next table so we can finish getting him cleaned up. Which we do, then proceed to sit down to our tacos and tostadas with beans and rice as if nothing had happened.

You know you are a parent when you can change a blow-out poopy diaper then eat refried beans right afterwards without even thinking about it.

Un-believable

I know there are several of you out there that are BIG American Idol fans. I don't choose to watch it because most of the time I don't think those people are that great and it doesn't entertain me to watch it. We have differing opinions about good singers, so be it. Bygones. I don't want to argue it here.

BUT.

If you haven't seen this clip from the Brits version of the show, you are missing out. THIS guy has real talent, and he should win the whole bloomin' thing. If he doesn't, then it proves my point that the whole thing is crap. He was so good, I cried. Granted, the song makes me cry anyway. But he really was THAT good.

Enjoy.

It's Been A While

My Mama has been here the past week and I've been hanging out with her, so no time to blog. We did a TON of stuff around the house and yard. We got ALL the boxes unpacked and taken to the recycle center, along with all the paper. We changed out the drawer/cabinet pulls per cjh's recommendation. (Thanks again!) Mama worked her magic on the plants and bought us a lot of flowers and plants for our beds. We got trees trimmed and weeds pulled and an herb garden started. And, of course, we played with the Drew Bear. He's getting so big! Literally. He weighs 16 lbs 10 oz. That's 93rd percentile, for those of you interested.

So, I'm back now to the world of blogging. But I'm sure now I've lost the measly few readers I had anyway, so it will just be me talking to myself again. Oh well.
